Resto Shaman PvP Guide 4.3

Resto shamans are also an incredibly viable healer right now and are arguably the best healer at this point in time. But what makes Resto Shamans so good? Well, the biggest plus that Resto shamans bring to the table is that they are a versatile healer that also bring a lot of support to a comp. Shamans have many abilities that can totally counter another team’s tactics. Wind Shear is probably the most recognizable out of all these abilities. Wind Shear interrupts the target’s cast for two seconds which in the arena can seem like a lifetime. Another reason why Resto shamans are so good right now is because they have great synergy with casters and melee alike. Resto shamans can run anything from Mage, Warlock, Shaman to a melee cleave such as Feral Druid, Death Knight, Shaman. Being able to work with all of these classes is what makes a Resto shaman such a force to be reckoned with. Is that it? Is that all that makes shamans the BEST healer in the game right now? Absolutely not! More than just being able to work well with other classes, they work as a great support class in general. What this means is that a shaman isn’t there to put out huge damage, or crowd control someone indefinitely, he’s there to support his team. Through his arsenal of totems provide support in nearly every arena match. The most important totem that comes to mind when thinking in support terms is the Spirit Link Totem.
Not to stray away from the point of this Resto Shaman PvP guide, but I’m going to take a moment to discuss Spirit Link Totem. In my opinion Spirit Link Totem is one of the most powerful abilities in the game right now. When you drop the totem, anyone within the range of the totem begin to share their health with each other. Well that doesn’t see that great right? Wrong! This totem is totally amazing because it can literally save the shamans life as well as his teammates at any point in time. Say for example the shaman is at around 10% and the rest of his teammates are at full HP. If the shaman was in trouble and knows he will most likely die he can drop Spirit Link Totem which would equalize his teammates health with his. This would in turn make his health equal with his partners and since they had much higher HP than he does the effect would be to make the entire team’s health being around 70%. That’s an incredible ability seeing as how it’s instant cast and it’s only requirements is that people have to stand in the circle. Okay enough of Spirit Link, back to the Resto Shaman PvP Guide.
Other strong abilities of Resto shamans are Grounding Totem, Unleash Elements, Nature’s Swiftness, Earth Shield, and Riptide. Each of these abilities have their part in making a Resto Shaman’s role in a team. Remember that these abilities have to be used properly in order to maintain this role as the Resto Shaman in a comp. If you’re mindlessly using these abilities with no aim then you’ll most likely fail. Always remember to read the tooltips and even though that can sound like a rather novice thing to do it’s far more advantageous than you think. If you go through and read the Shaman talents after you finish this Resto Shaman PvP guide you can see which are more potent and which should be used.
No resto shaman PvP guide would be complete without an actual PvP spec. The most common Resto shaman spec right now is Resto Spec. This spec is incredibly solid and doesn’t lack any point usage that could otherwise be misinterpreted and used incorrectly. Obviously there are a variety of Resto Shaman specs out there but this one is by far the most common and for good reason. This spec allows you to put out the most healing while at the same time being able to gain a lot of mana as well. This is important because Shaman’s mana efficiency has been nerfed severely and I find myself running out of mana more and more often compared to other healers if the pressure in the games is high. In this spec I also included the glyphs that I use on my shamans when I play. The only glyph that you could possibly switch out for another is Riptide Glyph. You can interchange this glyph with Earthliving Weapon Glyph. The downside being that your Riptide HOT (Heal Over Time) does not last as long but instead when you’re able to get a proc of Earthliving Weapon the HOT that goes along with that will tack on roughly 300-500 healing per tick. This may not sound like a lot, but healing is healing and not having to worry about keeping track of a heal sounds good to me. However, I don’t prefer to base my healing off whether or not I get a proc from my weapon. I prefer Riptide because it allows you to put it on multiple targets and heal them at the same time. This in turn allows you to conserve mana because you’re able to just let the HOT of the Riptide heal your teammates without having to actually cast a heal on them. Note that this is for a situation where your teammate is not being focused. This does not mean that the Riptide HOT will keep your teammates up through imminent doom.
